Why buy instead of rent for a New Zealand trip?
Renting a campervan in New Zealand typically costs NZ$120–250 per day. If you're staying longer than four to six weeks, buying and reselling before you fly home works out substantially cheaper — and you get your own bed, kitchen and freedom over the whole trip instead of a rental schedule.
How buying a campervan in NZ works for overseas visitors
- Land in Auckland — our yard is 15 minutes from the international airport.
- Test drive, pick your van, and complete the NZTA ownership transfer (online or at an agent).
- Check the WOF, registration and facilities listed for your chosen van.
- Set up NZ insurance in a day (we'll point you at the right brokers for tourists).
- Hit the road — North Island or ferry south — usually within 48 hours of landing.
Self-containment: what visitors should know
